A User’s Manual For The Human Experience by Michael W. Dean

‘A User’s Manual For The Human Experience’ by Michael W. Dean is, according to the website promoting the book, NOT your mother’s self-help book.

Well, unless your mother is an open-minded, entrepreneurial libertarian… and perhaps a member of the National Rifle Association.

Actually, I’m a mother and I like to think I’m open-minded, entrepreneurial and a libertarian. And although I’m not a member of the NRA I am taking up sports shooting… so maybe it is, at least, my children’s mother’s self-help book…

DuckDuckGo Search Engine

Could a simple search engine run by one guy actually deliver a better search experience than either Google or Bing? Well, for some searches at least, Gabe Weinberg’s search engine DuckDuckGo delivers both better search results and an easier-to-navigate presentation of those results than the big guys.

Granted, I’ve only just started using DuckDuckGo, but so far I’m impressed. The clean interface is a throw-back to the original version of Google (i.e. spacious with no paid ads) and Gabe Weinberg’s privacy policy – whereby it does NOT store your search requests – is a refreshing change from the standard search engine policy to store everyone’s search history.

If you visit the Kikabink News Internet marketing blog and glance down at the bottom of your browser, you’ll see Wibiya’s web toolbar a.k.a. Wibar. We recently installed the Wibar as a way to attract more traffic to the Kikabink News site and to raise our visitors’ engagement with both the Internet marketing news we publish and each other.

It’s too early to report on the Wibiya web toolbar’s impact on traffic and visitor engagement, but I know enough to recommend the Wibar as something you might test on your website.

Google News Now

Google News Now by Eric Rosenberg is an excellent step-by-step guide on how to get your website into Google’s Google News index. Why have your site included in the Google News index? Simply because Google News results have a tendency to trump other results in the search engine results pages (SERPs) for any given search. Here’s what I mean…

Somewhat randomly, I did a search on “wind farm” and guess what came up at the top of the first page of results? Was it any of the websites that have been optimized for the search engines? No, it was Google’s News results. Check out my screen capture below.

Scribe SEO An SEO Copywriting Product

Sunday, March 14th, 2010

Scribe SEO, a product developed to help bloggers to be able to see the mishaps in their writing and hopefully improve their SEO writing skills has been released to the blogosphere. Brian Clark of Copyblogger introduced Scribe SEO to his tribal followers this February 2010.

Brian and co developers claim that SEO Copywriting is difficult and they have put an end to the confusion for the average blogger by creating a tool that…

  • Analyzes what you have already written to preserve your natural flow of writing
  • Claims to tell you what search engines will think you have written about
  • Gives you advice on what to change in you articles to make them more SEO Friendly

To give the tool a fair chance I signed up on their free trial offer to run the tool through some hoops. After writing two very specific posts about this exact tool “Scribe SEO” and after using this tool to analyze where I fit with my SEO copywriting skills I found that the tool could not even recognize it’s own self as a keyword.

Membernaire

It’s no secret that membership sites are a good way to make money online. They are the closest thing to having residual income from a website that is reliable month in and month out. However, there are a lot of hoops that people have to jump through in order to get a traditional membership site started. There are scripts to install, ways to make things interesting, the constant need to keep adding new content to the site, etc. For some, membership sites have become one of those “good in theory, not in practice” ideas.

However, the Membernaire course from Jimmy D. Brown turns that concept on its ear. This course, which is a membership site itself, is designed to teach a relative newbie how to get a membership site up and running within just a few hours – and just one article. It doesn’t seem possible, but here’s the key – Jimmy teaches members to use short reports delivered via autoresponder as the basis of the membership site content.

Desperate Buyers Only

Saturday, December 19th, 2009

There are dozens of products out there that try to teach people how to make money selling products online. The only problem is that people take that information and then choose topics that are completely wrong for making sales. Desperate Buyers Only separates the wheat from the chaff and shows you how to choose topics and write books the directly appeal to people who are likely to buy from you. They are desperate for information and want to know how to solve their problems now! You can imagine the kind of automatic urgency these niches have, and how easy it is to make sales if you approach them in the right way.

Author Alexis Dawes has been quietly making money with these methods for the past several years. The newest edition of Desperate Buyers Only has drastically changed from the first. The changes that are made are solely about developing traffic to your desperate buyers sales pages, and not about finding the desperate buyers themselves. This is refreshing because a lot of “make money online” teachers develop a method and then leave it out there for eternity, whether it works or not. The fact that Alexis has gone back and edited her book so completely speaks a lot of her character. Alexis wants you to succeed.
