YouTube Lets You Overlay Videos With Clickable Links
By Anna Johnson on July 3rd, 2009YouTube has just made tons of Internet marketers very happy. It’s new ‘Call-To-Action Overlay” will allow you to place an overlay on your videos that includes a clickable link people can use to visit your website.
To date, YouTube has shied away from allowing videos to include clickable URLs, presumably because this would send traffic away from YouTube.
Now, however, it is allowing video owners to use clickable overlays with a few provisos: you can only put such overlays on videos you’ve entered into YouTube’s CPC Promoted Videos program, and, as such, you must be a paying YouTube advertiser.
It may well be worth it. According to TechCrunch, a few organizations have tested the overlay feature with great results. In March, for example, an organization called charity:water raised $10,000 in a single day by including an overlay on one of its videos.
