YouTube Being Used for Video Spam

By Anna Johnson on October 20th, 2009

Security firm, Kaspersky Lab, has detected a new trend in spam – where spam emails are including links to video advertisements on YouTube.

According to Kaspersky Lab’s Content Filtering Research group, the company recently spotted several variations of a particular mass mailing that contained a link to a video advertisement on YouTube.

In 2007, Kaspersky Lab envisaged that YouTube might be used as a medium for disseminating spam. Now, two years later, the company is detecting mass mailings specifically intended to prompt users to view an advertising video on the site.
