Yahoo Search Pad Helps You Take Notes While You Search
By Anna Johnson on February 13th, 2009Yahoo has just taken a positive step towards being the ‘researcher’s search tool’. The company is testing a new application, Yahoo Search Pad, that aims to make it easier to, among other things, take notes as you search.
Yahoo Search Pad differs from other note-taking tools, such as Google Notebook, in that Search Pad doesn’t required you to go elsewhere to take notes.
According to TechCrunch’s Erick Schonfeld, who has been playing around with the beta version of Yahoo Search Pad, the application also attempts to recognize when you’re researching and records and groups all your searches for you.
For example, as you perform a search on Yahoo, Search Pad detects when you are searching or clicking on links related to the same topic. If it believes you’re in ‘research mode’ (i.e. looking for more than just a single website) a toolbar will appear under the search box to ask if you want to take notes. Alternatively, you can proactively launch Search Pad.
Yahoo Search Pad is not yet available to the public but promises to be a nifty little tool for those who want to conduct research.
