WordPress Growth Skyrockets
By Anna Johnson on August 20th, 2008By just about any measure, the Automattic owned WordPress.com and WordPress.org blogging platforms are both enjoying huge growth right now.
The hosted blogging platform WordPress.com has seen page views explode from 1.5 billion to 6.5 million in 2008 and is attracting 120-160 million global unique visitors per month. Meanwhile, there are now 2.6 million active, user-installed WordPress blogs on the Internet. Downloads from WordPress.org reached 11 million in summer 2008 up from 2.8 million the year before.
How does WordPress compare to its nearest rival Typepad? According to Comscore, U.S. unique visitors to both services ran neck and neck in July 2007 with around 5 million uniques each. A year on, and Comscore estimates WordPress.com’s U.S. Visitors at 20.9 million uniques, compared with 7.2 million visitors for Typepad.com.
