Women Responsible For Majority Of Online Travel Bookings
By Anna Johnson on August 16th, 2009Research by worldwide online reservation center Orangesmile.com reveals that women are becoming the majority-group making travel reservations online.
In 2009, women made 50 percent of the total bookings, up from the 48.8 percent in 2006. Orangesmile.com predicts women to account for 51.1 percent of all bookings in 2011.
- Orangesmile.com’s survey found several reasons driving this trend:
- Women are becoming more active in business and are more often traveling alone.
- Women are closing whatever gap there still exists in terms of familiarity with Internet technologies.
Women tend to be responsible for family travel and are more likely to use the Internet to book such travel, just as more travelers in general increasingly make reservations online.
