What Do Mobile Phone Users Buy?
By Anna Johnson on June 3rd, 2010Confirming other research we’ve recently published in Kikabink News, consumers with web-enabled phones are increasingly using their phones for shopping, and, more and more, they’re buying products and services beyond the usual ringtones and phone apps.
Based on its survey of 2,445 online consumers in March-April 2010, PriceGrabber.com has found that, among web-enabled phone owners:
- 22 percent use their phone to check prices, up from 16 percent in 2009;
- 21 percent use their phone to research products, up from 16 percent in 2009;
- 19 percent of consumers use their phone to browse for products, up from 14 percent in 2009;
- 13 percent use their phone to research products, up from 10 percent in 2009;
Of the 13 percent of web-enabled phone owners who buy products or services using their phone:
- 61 percent use their phone to purchase ringtones and apps;
- 57 percent of consumers use their phone to purchase consumer electronics;
- 42 percent of consumers use their phone to purchase books;
- 34 percent of consumers use their phone to purchase clothing; and
- 16 percent of consumers use their phone to purchase jewelry.
