Viral Videos: The Benefits of Creating a Sequel
By Anna Johnson on February 6th, 2009If you’ve had success with a viral video i.e. an online video that’s gone viral, there’s good reason to create a sequel or related video. Chances are, if your second video goes viral, you’ll bring more people back to your first video, re-igniting the popularity and ‘virility’ of that video too!
It seems logical – not least because of YouTube’s ‘related videos’ feature – and some data from TechCrunch bears this out…
The second most popular video of all time is called ‘Evolution Dance’ and has been viewed 112 million times since April, 2006. The creator of the video, Judson Laipply, released the sequel on YouTube just three weeks ago, and it has already attracted 3 million views.
But not only that: views of the original movie have risen to over 240,000 per day.
Now, you may not ever have achieved views of that magnitude but if you’ve achieved any kind of viral success with an online video, definitely consider creating a sequel…
