Vevo Snatches 25 Percent of U.S. Online Video Share
By Anna Johnson on June 2nd, 2010April 2010 data from comScore Video Metrix shows that music video site Vevo got a record 43.6 million U.S. viewers in April, about a quarter of the U.S. online video audience.
But Google – which owns YouTube, the leading online video site with a 43.2 percent share of online videos viewed – probably isn’t worried. The Vevo videos viewed include those from the Vevo channel on YouTube. Meanwhile, Vevo – which launched in December 2009 – is a joint venture of Universal Music Group and Sony Music Entertainment in partnership with Google/YouTube.
According to comScore 178 million U.S. Internet users watched watched 30.3 billion online videos in April 2010. The most popular sites after Google/YouTube were Hulu with 958 million videos (3.2 percent of all online videos viewed), Microsoft sites with 644 million (a 2.1 percent share of the U.S. online video market), Viacom Digital with 384 million (1.3 percent) and Yahoo! sites with 371 million (1.2 percent).
