Utah’s Keyword Bill Stalls
By Anna Johnson on March 17th, 2009ClickZ News reports that the proposed Utah legislation to restrict the ability of search marketers to bid on trademarked terms will not be voted on by the Utah Senate until the January General Session in 2010.
The bill, which was passed by Utah’s House of Representatives in a 38-36 vote, aims to ban advertisers from targeting keywords constituting competitors’ trade marks in search ads aimed at Utah residents.
According to the bill’s Senate sponsor, Senator Curtis Bramble, the Utah Legislature plans to discuss the bill with both proponents and critics of the bill.
High profile critics include AOL, eBay, Google, Microsoft, and Yahoo.
