U.S. Government Websites Attract 81 Million Americans in July
By Anna Johnson on September 10th, 2009Research from comScore, Inc. indicates that more than 81 million Americans visited U.S. government sites in July – about 42 percent of the total U.S. Internet audience.
The most popular websites were the Department of Commerce (including Weather.gov and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration site, NOAA.gov) with 7.1 million visitors, followed by Department of Education websites (ED.gov) with 7 million visitors.
The National Institute of Health (NIH.gov) was fourth most popular with 6.9 million visitors, followed by the Internal Revenue Service (IRS.gov) with 4.2 million visitors, and the Social Security Administration (SSA.gov) with 3.3 million visitors.
It also turns out that U.S. citizens are generally happy with their experience on government websites. Customer satisfaction averaged 76 percent across U.S. government sites. According to Nielsen this is just 5-10 percent under the top e-commerce sites.
The Department of Education site, ED.gov got the highest rating at 81 percent.
