U.S. Online Christmas Shopping Hits Record $32.6 Billion

comScore reports that U.S. online spending during the November – December 2010 holiday season reached $32.6 billion, 12 percent more than in the same period in 2009.

In the last week of the Christmas period (the week ended December 26, 2010), consumers spent $2.45 billion online, 17 percent higher than last year. The top growing category this year was Computer Hardware, with 23 percent more sales than in 2009, driven by sales of tablet computers and e-readers.

The other top growing categories were Books & Magazines (up 22 percent), followed by Consumer Electronics (up 21 percent), Computer Software excluding PC Games (up 20 percent) and Toys (up 16 percent).
