U.K. Retailers Losing Sales, Playing Catch-Up on Mobile Internet
By Anna Johnson on September 13th, 2010U.K. retailers may be losing sales as mobile users find it difficult or impossible to use their sites via mobile. New research shows that whilst U.K. based mobile Internet users are flocking to retail websites, only a minority of top retailers have websites optimized for mobile devices.
According to comScore data, around 4.2 million consumers are visiting U.K. retailers’ websites using mobile devices. At the same time, however, research by eDigital Research shows that only four of the top 20 most frequently visited retailer websites are optimized for mobile handsets.
Furthermore, only eight of the top 20 have any kind of mobile application for smartphones such as the iPhone, Blackberry or Android powered devices.
U.K. Retailers, it seems, could learn a thing of two from Pizza Hut (see story).
