Twitter Wants To Rank No.1… For YOUR Name
By Anna Johnson on March 26th, 2009Visit your Twitter account and you may notice that the title tag reads ‘(Your name) on Twitter.’ Is this a concerted attempt to rank no. 1 in the search engines for the names of just about everyone with a Twitter account?
If so, you can imagine how much more traffic Twitter will generate from this change alone. Furthermore, since Twitter is such a high profile website with a massive number of back-links (and growing), you can bet that it has a pretty good chance at grabbing a first page search engine result for your name.
TechCrunch’s Robin Wauters reports that both his and the names of several other high profile people are ALREADY showing up as either the first or one of the first few results in Google.
I tested this on my name and, apart from the fact that there are many other ‘Anna Johnsons’ around, my Twitter account is NOT yet showing up on the first page. I will be interested to see if this changes in due course…
In any case, the move makes business sense for Twitter… and it makes sense for Twitter account holders to ensure their Twitter pages put their best foot forward!
