Twitter Drives Traffic To Social Media, Not Ecommerce Sites

By Anna Johnson on March 16th, 2009

Research by Hitwise indicates that Twitter tends to send a lot of outbound traffic to social media and entertainment sites, but not much to ecommerce websites.

Hitwise’s research shows that Twitter drives most of its traffic to Google, Facebook, TwitPic, YouTube, MySpace and Flickr.

It sends about 20 percent of outbound traffic to social networks and another 20 percent to entertainment sites.

By comparison, Twitter sends little traffic to retail, business or finance websites.
