The Best Tools For Searching Blogs

By Anna Johnson on February 7th, 2009

Ya know, it’s not that easy to find the best blogs on a topic by simply searching on Google, Yahoo or Microsoft. Lots of people realized this some time ago and the ‘blog search’ industry was born. But which are the best tools for searching blogs?

ReadWriteWeb, which tracks these kinds of things, posted an article last week setting out its recommendations for blog search engines circa January / February 2009.

The bottom line?

  1. If you want the latest news, fast – use Google Blogsearch.
  2. If you want to eliminate spammy results as much as possible – use Technorati and increase the ‘authority’ filter.
  3. If you’re looking for more data (e.g. trends, author awareness, and other statistical information) – use Icerocket.
  4. If you want a good ‘all-rounder’ in terms of speed, spam control, data and usability – use Ask.com Blogsearch.
  5. If you want to search social media beyond blogs (e.g. tweets, online videos, etc) – use FriendFeed.
