Texting is Most Popular Mobile Activity

comScore data indicates that, among U.S. mobile phone users, text messaging is the most popular mobile activity, followed by browsing the web and using downloaded mobile applications.

According to comsScore’s analysis of mobile phone use in August-October 2010, here are the most popular mobile phone activities:

  1. Text messaging – used by 68.1 percent of U.S. mobile subscribers (up 2.1 percent over the preceding 3 months)
  2. Web browsing – used by 36.2 percent (up 2.6 percent)
  3. Using downloaded applications – used by 33.7 percent (up 2.3 percent)
  4. Accessing social networking sites or blogs – used by 24.2 percent (up 2.4 percent)
  5. Playing games – used by 23.7 percent (up 1.4 percent)
  6. Listening to music – used by 15.4 percent (up 0.9 percent)
