Tap Tap is Most Popular iPhone Application
By Anna Johnson on April 21st, 2009In a counterpoint to Compete’s data that the most used iPhone applications are weather apps, comScore has released data suggesting that games are the most downloaded type of application.
comScore’s data suggests that 12 of the 25 most downloaded iPhone and iPod Touch apps are games. The most popular application is Tap Tap Revenge from Tapulous, which has about 16 million users, or just over a third of the 47 million iPhone and iPod Touch owners.
Other popular applications are the Pandora music application (downloaded by 21 percent of all users), the Virtual Zippo Lighter lifestyle app (downloaded by 18 percent), and the Shazam music application (downloaded by 17 percent).
Similar to the Compete data, comScore found that social networking site applications were also popular downloads, with Facebook and MySpace among comScore’s top 10, downloaded by 26 percent and 23 percent of all users respectively.
