Today’s news is a little about me… and all about you.

Gift #2: Killer Internet Marketing Interviews

My second gift to you is the Killer Internet Marketing Interview series – a series of four (4) approx. 60 minute audio interviews conducted with four wonderful, successful Internet marketers.

Now let me say up front, these are NOT your ordinary Internet marketing interviews. They’re not thinly veiled sales pitches or boring discussions about stuff you already know.

No way. When I invited each person to participate in the interview with me, I specifically told them I was planning a no-holds barred interview where I would ask tough questions and expect honest answers.

I wanted them to tell me – and YOU – the truth about what it takes to build a successful Internet marketing business.

I’m pleased to say… that’s exactly what they did.

So if you’re tired of superficial, fluffy, hypey interviews and want to hear four successful Internet marketers tell it like it really is… you’ll love these interviews!

The No.1 Key To Success In Internet Marketing

Tuesday, September 23rd, 2008

The number one key to success in Internet marketing – in fact, the key to success in just about every endeavor – is abiding by one simple principle.

The principle of continuous improvement.

In Japan, it’s called ‘kaizen’ which is a nice, shorthand way of saying you must always strive to improve, and that in order to improve you must constantly:

  • Test different approaches;
  • Track (or measure) which works the best; and
  • Innovate or come up with a new approach to test.

Ideally, kaizen should govern every single aspect of your business – from how you recruit and train staff, to your production processes, to how you handle the books. After all, every improvement counts. To your bottom line.

But whatever you want to improve, it’s essential to choose the right measure; otherwise your efforts to test, track and innovate will prove fruitless. For most businesses, the measure should have a direct or indirect impact on profits.

When it comes to marketing, and in particular Internet marketing, there are numerous elements you can test, track and innovate.

For example, our company, Kikabink, focuses on two general components of Internet marketing:

  1. Generating web site traffic; and
  2. Converting it into customers.

Therefore, our aim in testing, tracking and innovating is to measure and improve such things as the quantity of traffic, the conversion of visitors-to-sales, the conversion of visitors-to-optins, sales, and profits. And since there are numerous influences on traffic, conversion rates, sales, and profits, there are numerous things to test!

Fortunately, testing on the Internet is relatively inexpensive. To the point where it’s almost inexcusable for any online business not to test.

However, it’s easy to be overwhelmed by so many testing opportunities too. So, unless you’re capable of running complex multivariate tests (where you test numerous things at the same time), I suggest adopting a simple, methodical approach.

Divide your marketing into different categories, identify all the elements within each category, and then test them one at a time. This is critical - you need to be able to isolate exactly what causes a change in your results.

For example, you might consider traffic-to-customer conversion as one category. Some of the items within this might be the:

  • Product
  • Offer
  • Headline
  • Price

On that basis, you might select one of these to test first, get to a level you’re happy with, then move on to the next.

Which brings us to an important point: when do you stop testing? According to the principle of kaizen, the answer is never.

In practical terms, though, it’s reasonable to continue to test something until the rate of improvement start flattening out, at which point you can move on to testing something else.

However, if, for example, you started by changing the price… and then you changed the product, and then the offer and then the headline… you’d definitely want to retest the price!

Above all, embrace the principle of kaizen – you will literally grow your online profits by doing so!

Sylvie Fortin Attacks Marketers Over Further Sins

Tuesday, September 9th, 2008

“This report comes out at a time when the internet marketing community is quickly degrading into a dog-eat-dog world where good decent people are pushing the limits of the market’s endurance with shoddy products, lazy tactics, and borderline illegal methods.”

– Sylvie Fortin

Pretty strong, huh?

Sylvie Fortin, president and founder of Workaholics4Hire, has
just released Part 2 of her 3-part report, Internet Marketing
Sins.

As in Part 1, Sylvie is brutally honest… but even I had to

wince at some of what Sylvie said in this Part.

Fortunately, there is some light relief. The section on Lazy Ass
Marketers is pretty funny.

Definitely worth a read. And even though I don’t think Internet
marketing is quite so bad as indicated by the above quote, it’s
worth doing our bit to improve practices in this community - as
both marketers and customers.

Is Copywriting Really That Important?

Friday, August 15th, 2008

In short… yes. Copywriting is, in my view, the fourth and final critical skill for Internet business success is.

There may be other variations of the following, but I firmly believe that, on the Internet at least:

“Pictures tell, words sell”

What you say and how you say it makes all the difference in terms of attracting people to your website, developing a relationship with them (e.g. via email), and converting them into customers.

But it’s not just words in the form of text - it’s also words in terms of (what is said in) audio and video.

Multimedia doesn’t end the need for powerful, persuasive copywriting - it promotes the need for well written scripts!

So, when it comes to YOUR business, you need to have - or have access to - the ability to write persuasively.

So there you have the four critical skills to Internet marketing:

  1. Business management
  2. Marketing (particularly Internet marketing)
  3. Web design; and
  4. Copywriting

If you solely focus on these four areas - or at least hire good people to focus on these four areas - I firmly believe that you’ll set your business up for ongoing success.

Of course, it’s all very well to suggest you focus on “business management” or “marketing” or “web design” or “copywriting”… but what do each of those really involve? What do you really need to KNOW and DO in practical terms?

Well, that’s what this newsletter (free) and the products and services we promote (paid) are for :)

Warning: Don’t Read This Newsletter (Unless…)

Wednesday, June 25th, 2008

Welcome to our new look, new name email newsletter. Now before we go any further I’d like to suggest you don’t read any further… unless you’re genuinely passionate about Internet marketing!

That’s because our aim is to publish THE Internet marketing newsletter for Internet marketers. You know, where we actually tell you about breaking news… give you our take on topical issues… and provide you with helpful research findings, tips and more for improving the effectiveness of your Internet marketing efforts.

This ain’t gonna be your regular thinly veiled promotion for some self-styled Internet marketing guru’s latest home study course on how to get rich from the Internet! Boy, that was a mouthful.

So what’s our motivation? (Like, what’s our plan to extract money from you?) It’s simple really. The business model underlying Kikabink News is to generate revenue from advertising sales, affiliate promotions, and promotions for our own products and services.

But what may distinguish Kikabink News from some other so-called Internet marketing newsletters is that (a) we’ll actually publish news (as opposed to just tips on how to do this or that) and (b) there will be a clear distinction between news articles and advertisements or promotions. Hey, it works for The New York Times doesn’t it? Imagine that… providing a clear distinction between news and promotions.

Hopefully, you’ll like the new look Kikabink News, and if you have any suggestions for improvement or other feedback, drop me a line.
