Social Media Users Love Their Email Too
By Anna Johnson on February 22nd, 2010Research by customer relationship marketing agency, Merkle, indicates that far from abandoning email, heavy social media users are heavy email users too. In fact, social media users tend to spend more time checking and reading their email than those who do not frequent social media sites.
Merkle’s report, ‘View from the Social Inbox’ – based on findings from an online survey of 3,281 U.S. adults age 18+ during the fall of 2009 – found that 71 percent of Internet users spend 20 minutes or more per week reading email.
Furthermore, 42 percent of those who actively use social networks, such as Facebook, also check their email 4 or more times per day. Only 27 percent of non-social media users checked their email as frequently. 32 percent of active social network users and non-users alike, checked their email 2-3 times per day.
