Social Media Huge in China

By Anna Johnson on March 23rd, 2009

Research by Netpop Research indicates that 80 percent of Chinese Internet users view the Internet as a social media environment. Moreover, 92 percent of China’s broadband users contribute to social media.

243 million users aged 13 and above have broadband Internet access. That’s more than double the 105 million Americans who have broadband, constituting 76 percent of the U.S. broadband population.

According to Josh Crandall, president of Netpop Research, the Chinese use social networking more for professional and career advancement purposes than for the informal, social and more personal purposes that are popular in the United States.
