Social Bookmark Buttons Boost Traffic
By Anna Johnson on June 10th, 2009A recent case study by MarketingSherpa underscores the value of implementing ‘share this’ buttons and devices on blog posts and in emails to encourage readers to submit your content to social bookmark sites.
A business-to-business email newsletter publisher found that after implementing social sharing in the company’s email newsletters, reader interaction with the emails rose by 25 percent and traffic surged from social networking sites.
In particular, traffic from Twitter increased by 1,680 percent, traffic from LinkedIn increased by 2,070 percent, and traffic from Facebook increased by 1,351 percent.
It may seem like a no-brainer to include social sharing buttons on your blog or in your emails, but the newsletter publisher in question also took the logical (but probably rarely done) step of actually finding out what were the most popular social networks or bookmarking sites among its audience.
A survey of its readers revealed that Twitter, LinkedIn and Facebook were the most popular sites, which led the publisher to let readers share the newsletter content with those sites in particular.
