Smartphone Owners Favor Personal and Social Apps, Open To Ads
By Anna Johnson on September 30th, 2009The results of Compete’s quarterly Smartphone Intelligence survey show that iPhone and other smartphone owners are similar when it comes to which types of applications they prefer. They like applications for entertainment, games, music, social networking and the weather.
iPhone users are the most likely to buy their desired applications, and 83 percent of all smartphone users prefer apps under $5.
In contrast to other research indicating that mobile phone owners don’t tend to click on mobile ads, Compete’s research indicates that 30 percent of smartphone owners are either comfortable or very comfortable receiving targeted marketing on their device.
According to Compete, the types of offers that appeal to smartphone users tend to be those involving impulse and leisure purchases, rather than big, highly considered ones. So too, nearly half of smartphone owners are receptive to location-based offers at restaurants and offers to save and pursue at their leisure, while 45 percent would use mobile grocery coupons.
