Skype Coming To Your TV Screen Soon

By Anna Johnson on January 12th, 2010

‘Video-calling’ your friends, family, colleagues and others via your living (or board) room television will soon be a reality.

Skype is working with Panasonic Corporation and LG to embed Skype’s Internet-based voice and video communications technology in the latest generation of Internet-connected widescreen high definition televisions (HDTVs).

First cab off the rank will be Skype-enabled televisions from Panasonic. Due to launch in the second quarter of 2010, Panasonic’s line of 2010 VIERA CAST-enabled HDTVs will let you make voice and video calls over Skype. You’ll just need a TV-ready webcam which include special microphones that let you make calls without having to be close to the TV.

With Skype on your HDTV you’ll be able to make HD video calls, as well use the usual Skype features – free Skype-to-Skype voice and video calls, relatively low-cost calls to landlines and mobile phones, voice mails, and so on.

What a great idea, bring it on, a tool for fun and work, sounds great.
I use skype everyday in business, but trying to get friends and family to use has been difficult.
    This should make the difference.
    Can’t wait,
    William
