Silicon Alley Insider Announces Startup 2009 Conference
By Anna Johnson on April 14th, 2009Technology and finance blog, Silicon Alley Insider, is teaming up with co-host New York University’s Stern School of Business, to run the inaugural Startup 2009 conference in New York City.
Supported by founding sponsor General Catalyst Partners, Startup 2009 will take place during Internet Week on Wednesday, June 3, 2009 at the Schimmel Auditorium at NYU’s Stern School. It aims to showcase 10 top startup companies competing for ‘bragging rights, buzz, and a $50,000 prize.’
According to Silicon Alley Insider’s Julie Hansen and Henry Blodget, Startup 2009 will be the first of an annual forum for ‘outstanding entrepreneurs and early-stage companies to meet VCs, investors, journalists, and other members of the East Coast startup community.’
Startup 2009 will be a one-day event featuring speakers such as Jason Calacanis (founder and CEO of Mahalo), John Battelle (founder and Chairman/CEO of Federated Media) and Kevin Ryan, CEO of Alleycorp.
The competition between the 10 startups will be judged by venture capitalists – George Bell (partner of General Catalyst Partners), Amish Jani (managing director of FirstMark Capital) Eric Hippeau (managing partner of SoftBank Capital) and David Pakman (partner of Venrock).
Tickets are available now, with early-bird tickets on-sale for $395 and a limited number of student tickets available for $49.
Companies that wish to participate in the competition must apply by this Friday, April 17, 2009.
