Sedo Sells Record 11,942 Domain Names in First Quarter of 2010
By Anna Johnson on May 5th, 2010Sedo, which runs the world’s largest online domain name marketplace, sold a record 11,942 domain names in the first quarter of 2010 – an 18.6 percent increase over its domain sales in the final quarter of 2009.
Sedo’s biggest sale during the quarter was for poker.org, which sold for $1 million. Its top selling domain name category was tobacco, followed by computer software, and domains containing references to regions, countries or cities.
The generic Top-Level Domain (gTLD) domain extension .com accounted for 76 per cent of all sales, and, interestingly, the top country code Top Level Domains (ccTLD) were .de (comprising 38 per cent of country specific extensions), followed by .eu (36 per cent) and .co.uk (13 per cent).
