Sears Acquires Delver Social Search Engine… Why?

U.S retailing giant Sears – owner of Kmart and Sears – has acquired social graph search engine Delver.

That’s good news for Delver, which avoids going into the ‘deadpool’ predicted by TechCrunch, but it has a lot of people scratching their heads over what Sears is up to.

Apparently, Delver will become a research and development center for Sears and continue developing the search engine among other products.

Sears’ move to create ServiceLive – an ‘elance for tradespeople’ – is perhaps an understandable move away from traditional retailing, since Sears sells furniture and the like for home makers. But Delver doesn’t seem to be such a logical fit…
