Online video views grew by 35.9 percent in 2009, according to data from AccuStream Research. Professionally produced, distributed and syndicated video rose 18.1 percent over the year before to generate 49.1 billion views, while UGV grew by 47.8 percent to 93.2 billion views.

UGV sites averaged 27.1 views per unique user per month per site, compared to a 4.1 comparable on professional sites, indicating that UGV sites such as YouTube are more popular than professional online video sites.

AccuStream’s report, ‘Pro and UGV Category Share Analytics 2005 – 2009′ shows some other interesting trends. For example, while music video accounted for 45 percent of video views on professional online video sites in 2005, they accounted for just 6 percent in 2009.

Meanwhile, music videos have assumed an increasing share of views on UGV sites. For instance, between 2007 and 2009, music videos available through YouTube have grown from a 28 percent share to over 31 percent.
