Online Sales 3 Percent Higher Than in 2008 During First 5 Weeks of Holiday Season

comScore reports that online retailers sold nearly $16 billion worth of products in the first 36 days of the holiday shopping season, 3 percent higher than during the same period last year.

The week ended December 6, 2009 saw e-tailers make $4.6 billion in holiday sales. This was also 3 percent higher than during the equivalent week in 2008, but weaker than in 2007.

Black Friday (November 27, 2009) saw Internet retailers reap sales of $595 million, an 11 percent increase over the $534 million on the same day in 2008. The momentum continued on Cyber Monday when online sales reached $887 million, 5 percent higher than those on Cyber Monday in 2008.
