Online Fraudsters ‘Buying’ More This Year
By Anna Johnson on December 7th, 2009Retail Decisions’ recent analysis of this year’s U.S. sales on Black Friday and Cyber Monday this year, indicates that, just as legitimate sales were up over those in 2008, so too were those made to online fraudsters.
According to Retail Decisions CEO, Carl Clump, the four most fraud prone products were virtual and regular gift cards, the Xbox 360, Nintendo Wii, and the new Xbox game, “Call of Duty”.
Mr. Clump said: “Whilst online retailers witnessed a huge up-turn in sales this holiday season, fraudsters are also ‘spending’ more, with an average value of $248 per transaction online across the two busiest days, 23 percent more than the average genuine customer.”
