Online Advertising Down in Europe

By Anna Johnson on June 22nd, 2009

Figures from the Interactive Advertising Bureau (IAB) Europe and PriceWaterhouseCoopers indicate that European digital advertising growth slowed significantly in 2008.

In 2008, online advertising in 19 European markets grew by 20 percent over 2007 to reach €12.9 billion (approx. U.S. $18 billion). This was much lower than the expected level of growth. In the top 10 markets in Europe, year-on-year growth rates were generally below 20 percent.

In line with the IAB’s U.S. predictions, the forecast for European online advertising in 2009 is for even lower growth.
