OneRiot – Impressive Real Time Search Engine
By Anna Johnson on May 15th, 2009This week saw the launch of OneRiot, a ‘real time’ search engine that delivers results based on constantly crawling such sites as Twitter, Digg and other social media sites. On first looks, I love OneRiot and I reckon you’ll find it to be a VERY useful Internet marketing tool.
OneRiot basically indexes and re-indexes the popular social media sites every few seconds. As such, it proposes to give you the freshest, most relevant results for what people are talking about online.
But it also offers some other great functionality too…
For instance, you can use OneRiot to search on a specific domain name or URL e.g. website or specific blog post or article to see what sites, posts or articles are getting the most ‘social mileage’ based on how many times they have been ‘Dugg’ or ‘tweeted’ online.
You can also see who was the first person to share a particular link and see their Twitter or Digg profile. What a great way to identify the ‘mavens’ or ‘connectors’ in your market!
Another feature of OneRiot is the ability to see what people are saying about a particular search result. You can also evaluate search results based on OneRiot’s proprietary score of current social relevance. OneRiot also filters out spam and duplicate links shared through URL shortening services such as Bit.ly and TinyURL.
OneRiot distinguishes itself from other ‘real time search engines’ such as Twitter’s search tool released last week by saying that rather than delivering a lot of ‘noise’, OneRiot delivers ‘signal’.
Of course, there’s still value in tracking the level of ‘noise’. I think it’s useful to know, for example, the quantitative impact of something on Twitter (e.g. sheer number of retweets).
OneRiot, however, offers the ability to quickly derive some incredibly useful information you can directly use to enhance your marketing.
