One in Two Americans Has a Social Network Profile
By Anna Johnson on April 14th, 2010Almost one in two Americans aged 12 and older have a profile on one or more social networking websites, according to research by Arbitron Inc. and Edison Research.
Arbitron Inc. and Edison Research have released a report, ‘The Infinite Dial 2010: Digital Platforms and the Future of Radio’. Among other things, the report reveals that the percentage of Americans with at least one social networking profile is now 48 percent, double the 24 percent figure of 2008.
Americans’ use of social networking sites cuts across age groups, with 78 percent of teenagers, 77 percent of 18-to-24s, 65 percent of 25-to-34s and 51 percent of 35-to-44s having personal profile pages.
The survey of 1,753 randomly chosen Americans aged 12 years and older (conducted in January and February 2010) also reveals that 30 percent of those with a social network profile use social networks several times per day. This is also up from the 18 percent of respondents who said the same thing a year ago.
