No More Free Dinners At Google
By Anna Johnson on August 27th, 2008Google is famous for providing its employees with plenty of perks. From a day off a week to work on individual projects to free food – breakfast, lunch, afternoon snacks, dinner and roaming tea trolleys.
But it’s rumoured that free dinner, afternoon snacks and the roaming trolleys are now off the menu. Well, for some employees that is.
It turns out that free dinner will no longer be available to “non-technical” staff. So if you’re in, um, marketing, for example – working your butt off to make sure there’s a market for all those whiz bang technologies the geeks are coming up with… no free dinner for you.
So what the company may save in food costs… it may lose in morale and employee-time. Let’s face it, all that free food helped keep Googlers at work. Not just the tech-heads, but the people in marketing, finance, legal, admin, etc…
