Newspaper Advertising Down 18 Percent

By Anna Johnson on December 2nd, 2008

According to the Newspaper Association of America, U.S. newspaper advertising (both print and online) was just $8.9 billion in the third quarter of 2008, down 18 percent from the year before.

So far, in the first three quarters of 2008, newspaper advertising sales have dropped by $5 billion to reach just $27.8 billion. The latest figures mark the 10th straight quarter in which print advertising has declined, and the second in which online ad sales have also dropped. Just 3 percent (or $750 million) of total newspaper ad sales, however, constitute online sales.
