MyToons Animation Community: The End

By Anna Johnson on February 3rd, 2009

I have a fondness for animation and have, in fact, done a little cartooning in my time. And so, it’s kinda sad that MyToons, a community for animators, has reportedly self-destructed. With the emphasis on the ‘destruct’ bit.

Apparently the company has imploded with all but the three founders being laid off after the lead investors behind the venture refused to inject any more cash.

Meanwhile, disgruntled ex-staff are alleging that the co-founders failed to ever turn MyToons into a revenue earning business, mismanaged the financial records and wasted money on personal expenses.

TechCrunch considers the tips to be reliable, although it has failed to get the ‘other side’ of the story from the co-founders. In the meantime, CEO Dan Kraus has apparently told the San Antonio Express-News that the company is still operational and planning new features.
