Most Internet Marketers Struggling To Make an Income Online

By Anna Johnson on November 4th, 2009

Internet marketer Kyle Tully recently surveyed a few hundred of his subscribers. Among his many discoveries was that 71 percent of his list were making less than $500 per month from their Internet marketing efforts.

Whilst Kyle’s research is hardly objective or definitive, his findings are nonetheless interesting and certainly align with a lot of anecdotal evidence, as well as surveys by other Internet marketers.

Among Kyle’s findings were that around 45 percent of those surveyed (consisting of 90 percent paid customers and 10 percent ‘free’ subscribers) had 12 months or less Internet marketing experience, 25 percent had 13 months to 3 years experience, and 29 percent had more than 3 year experience.

Kyle found that among this list, 40 percent hadn’t yet made any money online, around 31 percent were making $500 or less per month, 13 percent were making $501 to $1,000, 7 percent were making $1,001 to $3,000 per month, 4 percent were making $3,001 to $5,000 per month and and around 5 percent were making $10,001 or more per month from Internet marketing.

I’m not sure whether Kyle was able to discern a relationship between his subscribers’ experience online and their incomes, but this would have been an interesting finding. Presumably, the greater the experience, the more money people were making. Of course, this isn’t always the case, since much depends on the characteristics of the list.

Also interesting was the feedback Kyle got when he asked about the biggest struggles people had making an income from Internet marketing. In this case, Kyle did make the link between the incomes people earned and the struggles they had, with those making no money naming their biggest struggles as getting started, information overload and technical difficulties.

People in the $1 to $1,000 income bracket struggled with finding a niche, focus and work overload. Those in the $1,000 to $3,000 bracket pointed to content creation and following up with their lists, while those making $3,000 or more named motivation, managing the balance between daily tasks and big new projects, and outsourcing, as their biggest challenges.

    Hey

Great find, this is really helpful information because it confirms what I’ve been seeing with my own list.

I also get emails (from my subscribers) telling me that they spend too much time learning and opening emails, plus many people seem to buy resell products then have no idea how to get them up on a website and get traffic to them. This further confirms the majority (no income online group) is having these issues.

Good article, sometimes the truth of internet marketing is not always good news for the average home biz owner. Studies have shown however 97% of online marketers fail due to giving up! As with a brick and mortar business it requires a lot of work, whether you pay for advertising or take advantage of free advertising it still requires time and effort, sometimes more than most people are willing to give. There are many free resources to help you, you have to promote your website, product, service etc. to thousands to achieve any success. Keep that in mind. Have faith and work hard, this is the bottom line you must meet every day! To your success.
