Moms Spend One Day Per Week On The Internet
By Anna Johnson on November 4th, 2010Disney Online’s Mom on a Mission (M.O.M.) research reveals that U.S. mothers are heavy technology users, with the average mom spending a full day per week online, mostly in the mornings between 5am and 12 noon.
According to Disney Online’s research, 89 percent of moms use a computer, 87 percent use the Internet and 84 percent use a mobile device. Just over half (55 percent) frequent social networks.
When it comes to going online, 3 out of 4 moms go online with a specific activity or goal in mind. They spend an average of 6.9 hours a week online connecting with family and friends – 84 percent through email and 69 percent through social networks.
Moms regard the Internet as an important source of information. Here are the main kinds of information they go online to find:
- 71 percent go online to find deals or discounts;
- 71 percent to find recipes;
- 62 percent for family activities, entertainment and travel;
- 59 percent for personal health questions;
- 56 percent to find arts/crafts projects;
- 54 percent for holiday planning and activities;
- 50 percent to find dieting information;
- 49 percent for beauty/style;
- 46 percent to seek answers for financial questions;
- 42 percent for parenting advice; and
- 41 percent to answer questions on baby/pregnancy
Disney Online’s M.O.M. study involved a survey of 3,300 women aged 21-54, who were either currently pregnant or had one child in their household between the ages of 0-14 years.
