Mobile Internet Use To Explode

By Anna Johnson on February 2nd, 2010

Gartner predicts that Internet-connected mobile telephone adoption will explode worldwide over the next few years, resulting in a 90 percent mobile penetration (6.5 billion mobile connections) by 2014.

Mobile penetration won’t be uniform, however, with Asia (excluding Japan) expected to have a 68 percent mobile penetration rate and Africa to have a 56 percent penetration rate. All in all, Gartner expects 3 billion adults to have a mobile phone by 2014.

What’s more, most of these phones will facilitate ecommerce, spurred on by advances in mobile phone and Internet technology, as well as people’s general acceptance of mobile phones as a means for conducting transactions.
