Mindset: Are You Too Busy Worrying About Weeds To Design and Build Your Magnificent Garden?
By Anna Johnson on October 30th, 2009Every now and again, I find myself ‘sweating the small stuff’ in my business. That’s when I quickly remind myself that, just as when you’re designing and tending a magnificent garden, there are always weeds to pull out and dead leaves to sweep away… but weeding and sweeping leaves should NEVER occupy more than a fraction of my attention and focus.
Whilst it’s essential to do the weeding and sweeping (otherwise those weeds and leaves will overrun the magnificent garden) such tasks do not need or deserve a lot of thought. They certainly don’t justify any amount of worry. Just get ‘em done whilst retaining your focusing on the grand vision: that magnificent garden, or for entrepreneurs, that magnificent business.
Not only does keeping your focus on the grand plan allow you to stay on top of the major issues, it’s also much better for maintaining a positive, optimistic frame of mind.
So, if and when you find yourself worrying about relatively trivial matters, spend a few minutes re-envisioning the business your building. Think about why you’re in business, what you’re building, and the awesome goals you intend to achieve.
Ideally, you’ll find that visualizing and thinking about your grand plan will not only help you put the small stuff into perspective, but it will also fire you up!
