Microsoft: Bing Won’t Be Forced Onto Users
By Anna Johnson on June 1st, 2009Microsoft’s new search engine, Bing, won’t be ‘forced’ on anyone, and Microsoft will not be leveraging Bing within Windows. Well, that’s what Microsoft Search Lead Paul Stoddart told TechRadar last Friday.
According to Stoddart, there are no plans for a ‘desktop Bing’ and Microsoft is keen to position Bing as an option rather than a default.
Having said that, the search bar inside Microsoft’s Internet Explorer browser will shift from Live to Bing, and if you buy a computer with Windows installed, you’ll get the option of using Bing or a different search engine as your default search tool.
Stoddart also told TechRadar that Microsoft will not manipulate its search results, which means that if Microsoft ranks down the list for a given search, so be it.
