Microsoft Announces ‘Bing’ Search Engine

By Anna Johnson on May 29th, 2009

Microsoft has revealed that it will officially launch its new search engine, Bing, on June 3, 2009.

Evidently, Bing is designed to be more of a ‘decision’ engine than a search engine.

When you perform a search, a guide on the left of the results page will, if required, help you further refine your search. Alternatively, depending on what you search on, you might find the content you’re looking for among the search results.

Each results page will also differ according to the type of search you perform. Both the order of results and the type of results will vary. Indeed, in some cases Bing will deliver the content you’re looking for within the results page e.g. videos from Hulu, comparison pricing, images, reviews, and so on.

Bing will also steer away from the sparse home page look that has so defined Google. Instead, Bing will display a beautiful image in the background of the search box.

I can’t wait to try it out. Who knows? Maybe Microsoft is onto something here…
