Match.com Buys People Media Online Dating Business
By Anna Johnson on July 13th, 2009Leading U.S. online dating business Match.com has agreed to acquire People Media, a leading operator of targeted dating sites, from American Capital Ltd. IAC, which owns Match.com, will pay $80 million in cash for People Media.
The acquisition of People Media, which had $11.6 million in earnings before interest and tax in 2008, will consolidate Match.com’s position in the U.S. online dating space.
According to IAC, Match.com is the leading broad-based online dating site in the U.S., while People Media is the leading operator of demographic-focused dating sites.
People Media runs 27 online dating sites including BlackPeopleMeet.com, SingleParentMeet.com, SeniorPeopleMeet.com, BBPeopleMeet.com and LDSPlanet.com, with some 255,000 paying subscribers.

Online dating is a big industry and will keep growing as many people are looking and finding true love online. The consolidation of match.com and people media would provide a better, stronger and more secure service for their subscribers hopefully. It’s equally a good business move by match.com
