MarCom Launches as The Web 2.0 Community For Marketers

By Anna Johnson on December 29th, 2008

Could MarCom (mar.com) be the marketing community’s answer to Techmeme? TechCrunch thinks not… but I’m not sure that’s the aim of MarCom anyway. MarCom doesn’t claim to be a news aggregrator so much as a news and social community for marketers.

Indeed, MarCom describes itself as a ‘comprehensive web 2.0 community for offline and online markers with ranked news, articles and advice.’ According to its ‘about’ blurb, MarCom will allow marketers to network with other online marketers, and get the latest news related to digital marketing, search engine optimization and advertising, social media marketing, online advertising, blogging, affiliate marketing and more.

Okay, so according to TechCrunch, MarCom is more like a Digg for marketers, than a TechMeme. Or somewhat like Sphinn (which provides Internet marketing news and forums for Internet marketers). But if the networking aspect of the site takes off, MarCom could be much more than than. A Digg meets Sphinn meets LinkedIn perhaps?

In any case, it’s early days and, for now, the site shows promise.

Check it out here: http://mar.com/ (ingenious domain name). You can easily register and submit news, and can add a Firefox bookmarklet in order to submit news to MarCom as you go about your day.
