Le Web Startup Contest Winners Announced
By Anna Johnson on December 13th, 2008Le Web is the Europe based event for Internet companies to gather together, hear presentations from industry movers and shakers, share ideas, and network with each other. Le Web 2008 took place in Paris, France on Monday and Tuesday this week, and, as in 2007, involved a startup competition.
This year, a Ukraine based company called Viewdle, which offers technology that recognises faces in online video, won the startup competition. Second place went to Webnode, and third place to Zoover. The ‘People’s Choice’ award went to Silentale.
The 19 judges – comprising executives from venture capital firms, technology companies and media companies – selected the three top companies based on their performance in a 7 minute pitch on stage. Each of the winning companies won Sun servers from Sun Microsystems’ Start-up Essentials program.
