Last.fm – If You Can’t Sell ‘Em, Charge ‘Em
By Anna Johnson on April 3rd, 2009ReadWriteWeb reports that Last.fm – the online streaming music service acquired by CBS – will soon charge International users a monthly subscription fee to use the service.
Last.fm plans to charge users outside of the United States, United Kingdom and Germany €3.00 per month. Apparently it’s because advertising revenues simply don’t cover the cost of providing the service to audiences beyond these three countries.
The online music industry will no doubt watch with bated breadth to see if international users pony up the money. There is a general belief that people won’t pay for online streaming music, now it is, once again, being put to the test.
