Kirstie Alley Launches Phitter as The Twitter For Dieters
By Anna Johnson on January 8th, 2010Hollywood TV and movie star, Kirstie Alley, has launched Phitter – a ‘Twitter for dieters’ that allows people to micro-blog i.e. ‘phit’ on such tops as losing weight, getting fit, dieting and maintaining a healthy lifestyle.
Kirstie Alley has previously struggled with being overweight and now sells her own weight loss products.
Already the site seems to have an active community and demonstrates the potential of Twitter-like communities.
Phitter members can post public messages via the website or by sending texts from their mobile phones, as well as privately send direct messages to each other. Phitter has embraced the same 140 character maximum for messages as on Twitter.
Phitter also integrates with Twitter so that members can use Phitter to post messages directly to their Twitter followers and also find people who are members of both Twitter and Phitter.
What is probably most compelling about Phitter is the fact that Kirstie Alley is behind the site, giving it a little more distinction than the plethora of weight loss related social networks already on the Internet.
Kirstie must be kicking herself that she didn’t get the domain name Fitter…
