Kindle Books Are 35 Percent of Book Sales When Available on a Kindle
By Anna Johnson on May 7th, 2009Jeff Bezos revealed a rather shocking statistic yesterday when he announced the launch of the larger sized Kindle DX: apparently, when a publisher makes a Kindle version of a book available, sales of the Kindle version typically amount to 35 percent of all sales of that book on Amazon.
If that’s an indicator that 35 percent of book buyers would prefer to buy Kindle versions rather than printed versions… that should have print book publishers quaking in their boots… ebook publishers jumping up in excitement… and ebook reader makers eager to roll out their own ebook reading devices.
Silicon Alley Insider’s Henry Blodget wonders whether the 35 percent is due to incremental sales (i.e. more people buying books) or the cannibalization of print sales (i.e. print book buyers opting for Kindle versions).
I guess we will find out over the coming years, but it does look like ebook reading devices have an exciting future.
