iPhone Owners Love Their Facebook, Twitter Not So Much
By Anna Johnson on October 8th, 2009According to Compete’s quarterly Smartphone Intelligence survey results, Facebook stands out as one of the most popular applications among iPhone owners. 71 percent of iPhone users access Facebook from their mobile device, 37 percent cite Facebook as one of their top three most used apps, and 18 percent claim it’s their favorite app.
While Facebook is the most heavily trafficked social networking site among all smartphone owners, iPhone users are twice as likely to use the mobile Facebook app as, say, their Palm counterparts.
It turns out that iPhone owners are also the most active mobile social networkers, with the highest percentage of respondents reporting mobile use of Facebook, MySpace and Twitter.
Interestingly, however, iPhone users still prefer accessing Twitter via PC rather than mobile device, with 26 percent of iPhone users tweeting from their mobile device. Still, this is more than Palm and Blackberry owners of which only 15 percent and 10 percent respectively access Twitter via smartphone.
Of those who do access Twitter via their smartphone, 41 percent do so to keep track of what their friends are doing, 32 percent to keep up with current events, and 19 percent for marketing or promotional purposes.
