By Anna Johnson on December 15th, 2010eMarketer reckons Apple will have sold 8.5 million iPad devices in the United States by the end of 2010, giving it an 88 percent share of the U.S. tablet market.
The research firm expects Apple to sell almost 20 million units in 2011 (127 percent more than in 2010), and over 30 million in 2012.
By 2012 Apple will face more competition, however, and should see its share of the tablet market to decline somewhat to 74 percent. At that time, eMarketer reckons nearly 41 million Americans (12.8 percent of the U.S. population) will have a tablet.
Globally, eMarketer expects Apple to be slightly less dominant, with 69 percent of the global tablet market in 2012.
